So I played against a CSM list yesterday (will get a battle rep up sometime) and used Pedro. Ended up in a Draw, which I'm fairly happy with. Pedro's bomb missed completely... if it hadn't I might have pulled out a win. But still in the end Pedro was far more useful then my Master of the Forge usually is. Pedro and his Tactical squad got charged by Kharn. First round Kharn kills 5 Astartes and makes his invul saves vs my fists. Next turn he kills 1 Astartes and then succumbs to the combined fists of my Sergeant and Pedro.

My Drop Pod tactical squad did quite well again as well. They ended up taking out the demolisher cannon on his vindicator and then forced his Thousand Sons to come after them. Sure they died in the end, but that Vindicator never fired at me and the TSons were forced out into the open to be fired upon. And I learned that I can deploy from the petals of the pod, not from the base..... did not know that. Thats gonna help alot.

I have a Pedro conversion made from a AoBR captain and while I am happy with it, it just isn't converted enough for my tastes now. So I'm making another. I have the torso and Eld's Arrow (Dorn's Arrow) done. Just need to get the legs, helm and power fist done.

Unfortunately though I'm going to have to start looking for a 2nd job asap to make ends meet. So I doubt I'll be able to play every weekend for much longer. Fortunately I have just about everything done for the Ka-tet that I really need done.

A bit of random related news... I got a DA Note this weekend asking me to help with the Eye of Terror DA group :) Not sure exactly what I'll be doing yet, but I'm quite honored they picked me to help out.

Oh, and I've decided to offer my hand at doing some commissions. I know my stuff isn't golden deamon, but it always get good comments when I put it on the table. Not sure what prices I'll charge yet, but it'll be quite reasonable. I'll be glad to do some basic conversions on your regular marines and such to help them me more unique rather then just line grunts :) And of course I'll be happy to do more complex conversions, and we can work out the details in that regard.

So I've been to my third 40k tournament and I have to say that mayhaps competitive play isn't for me. Or maybe I just need to develop my playstyle some more before I try again. Regardless I'm taking a break from competitive play for awhile, which means no Hard Boyz for me.

Another thing I've come to decide is that while a Master of the Forge on a bike with a beamer is damn cool, it just isn't that useful honestly. Reinforcing a ruin is nice, but if I have no ruins then its useless. Usually I'm able to get my opponent to allow me to reinforce some piece of terran, but not always. And no invul save really sucks. When I play large games I'll likely use him in addition to another HQ, but as my sole-HQ... probably not anymore. Oh, I'll still run a dreadnought heavy list, cause I love the things.

I was toying with the idea of a custom chapter master, but when I was figuring up the points I couldn't deny that Pedro is just to damn good for the cost. I was considering Shrike to have a hard hitting HQ, and still toying with the idea. The only problem with Shrike is supporting elements in my army. Mainly I have no assault marines to use with him, any painted as Ka-tet Astartes anyways.

Nice thing about Pedro is I would have an Orbital Bomb to use that would be useful against a MEQ army or a Horde army.

So I'm playing through my head any last minute changes for my army list for the tourney this weekend. I'm pretty happy with it except the 85 points for my Whirlwind. I know most of the armies will be space marines... so I don't know how useful it will be. If my opponent has scouts it could help kill them, but against regular marines it just won't be that great. But I know there will be a Daemon army as well, so it would be useful against those.

I'm also trying to finish up a few honor guard for my Hard Boys list. I know painting doesn't count for that event, but it would be bad form to go with a mostly painted army sans a few honor guard. Need to work on that army list as well, since I read that Pedro's +1A bonus doesn't stack with a chapter banner, so silly to waste points for both in the same squad.

Working on my honor guards rhino as well. So far its nothing special. But I have a mold that should be ready to go today that should help spice it up some.

Oh, and I'm also working on a side project. Not sure if I'll just say its a Sensei, or eventually use it as my Inquistor (or both...). But I had a thought of 'What if He were one of Us?' in regards to the Emperor. Of course I didn't want to spend $50+ on one of those on Ebay, though they do look nice. So I made my own Emperor model, based on the AoBR captain model. I'll try and get a WiP image up tonight.

Along for the Ride

So I've had a few days to reflect on my army list and I think I know what changes I'll make for the next tourney.

Dropping the two razorbacks. In exchange taking the 5 man devastators with 4 missile launchers. I know most of the armies signed up are Space Marines (Loyalist and Chaos), so can't go wrong with lots of Krak. I also know at least one match will be annihilation, maybe 2 (last match is random).

In addition I should have just enough points to give one of my tactical squads a drop pod. With that squad I'll switch from a sergeant with a power fist to one with a power weapon and a combi-melta. I'd love to put a multi-melta in the squad to, but I don't have one. Or instead of the Devastators I could take my newly completed Thunderfire cannon. This would allow me to reinforce a second piece of terran for my gunline. Plus if push came to shove I could have the Techmarine join a tactical squad (assuming his cannon bit the dust) and that would give it quite a bit of CC power. Not really sold on anything specific yet. My only worry with the Thunderfire cannon is how fragile it is, and in a 1500 point army, not alot of room to really play around honestly.

Hmmm... I might also drop out Telion from the list and just use my power fisted scout sergeant. Telion rarely does anything grand (granted, he has shined, but more often then not....), and the scouts usually die in close combat. If the sergeant had a power fist it might get some opponents to be not so eager to charge them, and even if they do, will definitely cause some pain. Thoughts? Could probably field another scout or two for the difference in points.

I'm also curious if people liked how I did the battle reports. Cause if so then I'll probably try and do these for all my games.

We've got to get out of this Trap

So my battle reports from my most recent tourney are now posted. Overall a rather unpleasant experience. Not from the games themselves either. It was from some of the attitudes there. And I also found out the locals knew about the army comp scoring so they knew how to build their armies to get the most points they could. Anyone who wasn't a local was pretty much boned from the start. This was the same location I was considering going to for the 'Ard Boyz tournament. No more. Don't know if I'll bother with it at all, or if I'll find someplace else to go to.

I didn't even stay to see if I won something random, I just packed up my army and left. Needed to pick up my wife anyways and take care of something else that evening.

As far as my army goes what did I learn? I should have stuck with my gut and had the devastators with 4 ML and not the two razorbacks. Would have done me alot more good. Should stick with what I know. Beyond that my army really preformed well. In two of the matches if Kill Points mattered I would have massacred my opponent. Oh well.

And I saw some really nice Thunderfire conversions, and it finally inspired me to build my own. Got it built last night and should have it finished tonight, so I should have pictures up before tomorrow.
